Black Lives Matter Mural
The BLM mural of Utica NY is a summer project that I partook in with three other black artists to spread awareness in our community. Here are the things that I did for this project.
• Brainstormed theme, planning out layout and collaboration with other artists
• Assisted with measurements of the mural and observed digital sizing of elements
• Prepped wall - cleaning and priming
• Painted base coat and completed spray paint work for background
• Fabricated stamps for black “squares” that mimic the outline of the Cornhill neighborhood
• Helped with the calculation of quantity and selection of paint and materials needed for the project
• Assisted with the project timeline
• Observed budget creation and securing of funding
• Layout and painting of full geometric border on the mural
• Painting of select squares
• Daily set up and clean up of site and tools
• Assisted with Community Event - set up, ran paint tables, and helped those who needed it to paint on the wall
• Assisted with applying anti-graffiti coating

This is a 16-foot wall that took a lot of brain power to decide what we wanted to put on it. The grid here was inspired by the shape of the neighborhood in which the wall is located. The growth of the mural was incredible, it may have only been 25 and a half hours of work per artist just the bond that we had during those weeks was the best thing someone can ask for. We had a press conference along with a community event for people that live around this wall to come up and paint something that they want others to know/think about. Many people have taken pictures infant of the mural and they have also helped their own events as well.
